The Essentials team recently visited the Flora Blend Bar at The Zone at Rosebank, and had a great time learning, tasting, experiencing and sharing with the knowledgeable (and friendly) staff. We think you should definitely pay the pop-up store a visit, and here’s why:
It’s super interesting
You might not associate margarine or seeds with fun, but visiting the Flora Blend Bar was a really fun experience! We loved the interactive screens, videos and demonstrations — but most of all we enjoyed getting involved with the seed pressing and margarine-making processes.
Before visiting the bar, we had no idea that you could even make your own margarine at home with ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen, but you totally can! And seeing seeds get turned into the oil that’s used to make Flora margarine was pretty cool.
Kids will appreciate the interactive elements of the pop-up store, so definitely bring them along.
The food is delicious
From poached-pear-topped crumpets and indulgent brownies to showstopping caramelised onion tarts and creamy chicken liver pate (plus loads more), the food on offer is delicious. It really showcases the versatility of heart-healthy Flora margarine. But we think the best part is that the food is served tapas style, so you’ll be able to sample almost everything on the menu.
Free popcorn and bread
Even if you don’t have time to sit down and order off the menu, the free popcorn and bread at the pop-up store are well worth stopping for. We had our popcorn topped with salted caramel drizzle — and we’ve been dreaming about it ever since. The bread is incredibly fresh and you’ll get to taste it spread with all kinds of delicious margarine (the one infused with garlic was our favourite).
The space is gorgeous
Decked out with sunny yellow sunflowers and modern wooden finishes, the Flora Blend Bar is somewhere we’d gladly spend all day. It’s the perfect place for a rest in-between a day of shopping at the Zone at Rosebank. Or, for a change of scenery, why not make it your office for the morning? You can even order Motherland coffee, so you don’t have to sacrifice your caffeine fix.
You can do your bit for charity
September is Heart Awareness Month, and there’s no better way to work on your heart health, AND the heart health of all South Africans, than by visiting the Flora Blend Bar. Inside the pop-up store, you’ll find a cool retro bike attached to a kilometre counter.
Hop on the bike and get cycling — for every kilometre you cycle Flora will donate R5 to the Heart and Stroke Foundation South Africa. Plus you’ll be entered into a draw to stand a chance to win R10 000!
