Women aren’t bothered and men don’t care, so is it time to bring back the bush?
When the most shocking thing about the Fifty Shades of Grey film was Dakota Johnson’s full bush, you know waxing has gone too far. But if Christian Grey can get on board with the natural look, surely our guys can, too?
In fact, with 62% of women claiming their men are pro-pubes, it seems we’re wrong to assume they all want us bare down there.
Boys & Brazilians
We’re not sure when exactly it happened, but we do know what’s to blame for some men’s fascination with the clean-shaven look: porn. ‘I’m not grossed out by pubic hair,’ says Mike Booth, 34. ‘I just prefer it when my girlfriend takes it all off because it means I can see more!’ This is the real reason why adult filmmakers want their stars to be bald below: to give men a better view of the nitty gritty.
Thankfully, it seems Mike’s opinion is in the minority, with many men encouraging women to grow out their Brazilians. ‘I think it’s pervy to expect grown women to look like young girls,’ says Ewan Thorne, 37. ‘I can’t get enough of my wife’s hairy bits. It makes her feel like a real woman and I find it erotic.’

Women going wild
Kourtney Kardashian and Lady Gaga are pro-bush, and Cameron Diaz insists the natural look is sexy and enticing. With so many celebs speaking out on behalf of our lady gardens, women are finally deciding to reclaim them.
A recent survey showed that 45% of females can’t be bothered to groom any more. But it’s not just due to laziness; it’s also healthier to have a little hair down there.

The joy of (unshaven) sex
Rocking a full bush can work wonders in the bedroom — The Joy of Sex instructs men to ‘twirl their fingers’ in their lover’s pubes to indulge his sense of touch and encourage lots of kissing and stroking. ‘Pubic hair signifies a woman’s sexual maturity and because it isn’t the “norm” any more, it’s a bit taboo, which makes it even sexier,’ explains sexpert Susan Quilliam.
Reader Annie Phillips, 36, agrees. ‘My pubic hair makes me feel more confident,’ she says. ‘This is what my body is supposed to look like and it empowers me.’

Hair & hygiene
Prostitutes in the 17th century may have shaved, but that was mainly due to the fact that they were riddled with lice. The fact is, pubic hair exists for a reason — for example, it helps to keep out infections, bacteria and viruses like herpes and STIs.
Years of shaving, plucking, burning with hair removal creams and painful waxing are leaving our bits sore, itchy and inflamed, and by toning down all the preening it will help our most sensitive area recover.
Tame the beast
If you do decide to embrace your fluff, it doesn’t mean you have to go totally wild. ‘We are happy to trim hair if a client requests it and if you’re going on holiday, you can always opt for the basic bikini wax,’ says beauty therapist Lesego.
‘We’ll just take off the sides and a bit from the top, so you can avoid those unsightly “spider legs” and save the secret for those who you want to share it with.’ There really is nothing sexier…
