Step 1. Cleanse
It might sound obvious, but cleansing twice a day is the first step to a better-looking complexion. When you’re tired, it can be tempting to roll into bed without washing your face, but, if you’re not removing dirt, bacteria and sebum that build up during the day, you’re more likely to suffer from a dull, congested complexion. Cleansing twice daily sloughs dead cells off the surface of the skin, improving the circulation, leaving the face softer and brighter.
Step 2. Protect
Protecting yourself from harmful UV rays and free radicals like pollution and cigarette smoke is the most effective route to younger-looking skin. By the time we’re 18, we may have had half of our lifetime dosage of sun exposure, so it’s important to include UV protection in your skincare regime, and it’s never too late to start. Look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect from UVA and UVB rays, at least SPF15.
Step 3. Invest in new bedding
What simpler way to delay the signs of ageing than doing something as easy as changing your pillow case? Research shows that sleeping on a cotton pillow can actually damage and irritate the skin by the constant friction of our faces rubbing against the fabric. Alternatively, sleeping on satin or silk helps preserve the condition of the skin thanks to softer, more gentle fibres in the fabric.
