A new year brings with it the opportunity to make some much-needed change. We already think you’re absolutely fabulous but if you were looking to breathe some new life into your beauty box, you’ve come to the right place!
While the hottest new looks on the runway may not be for everyone, there is certainly a way you can tailor them to suit your personal style.
Here are the beauty trends to look out for in 2019:
Glowing goddess skin
Smooth, gorgeous dewy skin will never really go out of style. This is our favourite trend because it really emphasises how important it is to feel comfortable in the skin you’re in. And the great news is, you can achieve this spa-look at home with the right skin care routine- simply double cleanse, exfoliate twice a week and moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!
Sun-kissed and soft
Heavy contour is OUT in 2019 and we couldn’t be happier. We will forever be grateful to Kim Kardashian for making the technique mainstream; but let’s face it, who has time to blend in multiple shades of concealer with the hope of looking ‘naturally’ slimmer every day?
We have an easier solution: a simple sweep of bronzer. Not only will it help you sculpt your features in a more subtle way, it will also give your complexion a boost of youthful radiance. Use a big fluffy brush to buff a matte formula onto your cheeks, nose and temples. Finish off with your favourite highlighter and glow!
A box of crayons
Colour is set to take centre stage in 2019. Instead of choosing a bright lip OR a bright eye, do BOTH. Experiment with eyeshadow on your cheeks and lipstick on your eyes – you’d be surprised just how versatile one make-up palette can be. If the idea of a full face of colour intimidates you, use a pencil on the eye (think emerald or soft blue) and pair it with a matte orange lip.
Did someone say yellow?
You’ve probably seen pops of sunshine in every clothing store for a while now. Gen Z Yellow is 2019’s answer to phasing out Millennial Pink. Unlike the demure, ladylike shade of the millennial generation, Gen Z Yellow is light and fresh, and just plain fun. But we understand that yellow make-up may take some getting used to for most people.
Ease into this trend by packing yellow eyeshadow along the bottom lash line while using a neutral shimmer on your eyelid. Or concentrate on the inner corner of your eyes where you’d usually place a highlighter as make-up artist Ariel Tejada did for Kylie Jenner.
Hey, who doesn’t love a throwback? Usually, we’re all for a barely-there finish, but this trend calls for actually looking like you’re wearing make-up. You’ll need a matte foundation, concealer and setting powder to achieve even, poreless skin. This is probably the only look this year where neutrals will dominate the entire face – a wash of light brown with a hint of rose on the eyelids, and darker lip liner paired with brown lipstick.
While grey hair is going nowhere, you could also decide to up the fun with colour. How about trying a more wearable twist on the unicorn hair trend with a chocolate lilac hue? Paint your whole head with the chic pastel or start off with just the ends. You may be tempted to go the DIY route but we strongly recommend visiting an expert so that your own hair colour blends seamlessly into this pretty shade, while getting the best advice on how to maintain it at home.
Acrylic nails are making a comeback
These aren’t new at all, but ‘powder nails’ are apparently going to be big (again) in 2019. Here’s the thing about acrylic powder – your own nails can take quite a beating if your nail technician gets a little too aggressive during the buffing and removal stages, BUT when done correctly, they can last a full month with no chipping. Find yourself a good nail bar and let your fingers do the talking.
