We might not all be slaves to beauty trends, but there’s no denying that they do – to some extent – influence the hairstyle we choose, make-up we buy and the way we put our face on. There’s also the fact that they often make for a fantastic meme!
While some of these trends may have gone totally viral, forcing us to spend hours in front of the mirror (we’re talking about you, contouring), others (thankfully) stayed on the catwalk – and a few thousand Instagram feeds. All we can say is, we’re more than grateful to bid farewell to these beauty trends in 2018!
1. Lollipop lips
We were confused about this one from the get-go. Spending time actually making it look like your lipstick has bled all around your mouth after eating a large meal, or that you had beard burn… Why? We still don’t get it, and we’re glad we’re not the only ones, since we can officially say ‘adios’ to this fail of a trend.
2. Wavy eyebrows

@vivalapinkposh I Just Dodged a Major Curveball ??? (Idk who started it but I'm jumping on the band wagon) ???? #curvebrows #curveeyebrows #eyebrowtrend #wavybrows #wavyeyebrows #wavybaby #jointhewave #wavytrend • I think @slayagebyjess was the originator •& This was a Edit guys I don't have time to glue my brows down ??
We’re glad that this one pretty much stuck to the land of Instagram, as we’re not quite sure we would have been able to have a serious face-to-face conversation with anyone sporting eyebrows that looked like they were measuring seismic activity after an earthquake.
Once again, this left us utterly confused: we know we’re living in the bold eyebrow era, but this just took it way too far. Thankfully, this one is staying in the ‘whoops’ folder of 2017.
3. Glitter roots
Now, we love sparkly things as much as the next unicorn-crazed person, but when someone decided that it would be a good idea to make it look like a unicorn had vomited on their hair, we knew regret would be following soon. Not only is glitter-covered hair way too much for day-to-day life, we have to know: have these people ever tried to get rid of glitter?
While we’re grateful this trend won’t be joining us in 2018, we’re feeling a bit sorry for those who will still be finding glitter in their hair in 2019!
4. All the contouring

Rejoice with us! We can officially bid farewell to the hours we spend trying to chisel our jawline and define our cheekbones. If you’re a Kardashian, this might be bad news, but if you’re a mere mortal who has to do her own make-up every day, this is great!
2018 is all about embracing the natural shape of your face and getting friendly with blusher on the apples of your cheeks. This might be the trend we’re happiest to leave behind!
5. Holographic everything
Nails, lips, eyes and even hair, the silvery-pinky-purply metallic holograph was popping up in all sorts of weird and wonderful ways. Yes, it did sometimes look really pretty, but more often than not, it bordered on sci-fi costume vibes, and was way to high maintenance for our liking. 2018 is all about convenience, so this one won’t be finding its way there!
