Noticed an increase in fine lines recently? Or, maybe the bags under your eyes have become more pronounced? Before you book a botox consultation, try these 5 anti-ageing make-up tricks to cheat your way to a smoother, slimmer and younger-looking face…
Fake a facelift
No money for a facelift? No stress, we have your back! Always apply foundation on well-hydrated skin. Use the correct moisturiser and foundation type for your skin (liquid, powder, mousse, etc.) and build up coverage gradually, working from the middle of your face (where we generally need more help!) outwards.
Plus, it’s probably time to finally figure out the whole contouring thing. If your face feels saggy, use a contouring stick that blends easily to draw a line from the middle of your earlobe to the edge of your lips, then use a brush to buff in.
Chisel your cheekbones
If you’re looking a bit ashy, consider shades with blue undertones to make your complexion appear brighter. Suck in your cheeks to find the hollows. Shade along this sunken area from the hairline inwards with bronzer until you are nearly 3cm from your mouth.
Avoid glittery highlighters – Yardley London HD Highlighter Pen delivers the ideal hint of shine. Dab onto the highest points of the face – from the top of the cheekbones up to the temples – and then simply blend. Finish with a pink blush on the apples of your cheeks.
For creams, use a beauty blender to erase lines, or opt for a large fluffy brush for powder.
Perk up your eyes
Blur out bags and crow’s feet in a matter of minutes! Use a peach-toned under-eye concealer to counteract the purple shade of dark circles. Dab it on in a V-shape from the inner and outer corners of your eyes, down to the tops of your cheekbones, and then blend.
Dab on a pale pink shadow to the inner and outer corners of your eyes only (not all over) and just under your brows. This draws attention to the highest points of your eyes, giving the illusion of lift.
Next, use L’Oréal Paris Infallible Gel Crayon in Browny Crush, on your top lash line; this makes your eyes look bigger, and is far less harsh than a black liner.
And finally, nothing wakes up tired eyes more than mascara. Coat only the ends of your lashes to create an open-eyed effect.
Plump your pout
Thin-looking lips will age you in an instant, so give yourself a bolder lip – it’ll distract from any fine lines and wrinkles, and brighten up your complexion, too. Just be sure to steer clear of a matte finish; it will reflect less light and isn’t very flattering on a more mature lip.
Start by prepping your lips with a plumping lip cream, before you delve into your make-up bag. Dab a little concealer onto your Cupid’s bow, then use a lip liner that’s slightly darker than your own lip colour and draw it on just outside your natural lip line. Use your finger to blur the colour inwards.
Follow with a sheer lip gloss on the centre of your bottom lip for a look Angelina Jolie would be proud of!
When it comes to colour, coral is a suits-all option that never fails to reel in the compliments. You can’t go wrong with Clinique Long Last Lipstick in Beach Coral.
Streamline your nose
Not happy with your nose? Surgery isn’t your only option, with this nifty trick, you can have a nicer nose in minutes:
- Draw a line of illuminating concealer down the centre of your nose, from the middle of your eyebrows, stopping a few centimetres above the tip.
- Blend two parallel lines of bronzer on either side of your nose, running from the start of your brows down to the bridge of your nose
- Use a Kabuki brush to blend together. Voilà! A slimmer nose in no time.
