The invite for the party season of the year has just pinged into your inbox. Your outfit is ready and make-up planned, but what about your hair? No party look is complete without gorgeous locks. Can’t squeeze in a salon appointment? Why not do it yourself? Be sure to look at our party hairstyle tricks for minimal effort and maximum style, all from the comfort of your own home.
The easy volume
Best for short hair, this oh-so elegant hairstyle is timeless and super easy to do at home. Brush your hair through thoroughly, but rather than parting it as you usually do, brush it all back. As you do this, add some hairspray onto your hair to fix it in place.
Top Tip: Do not overload the hair with product or it’ll dry hard and sticky.
The Half Updo
Show off your lovely cheekbones and create this chic updo by first brushing your hair through to make sure it’s detangled. From the top of your ears (or higher, if you prefer), run your fingers around your hair until they meet at the back to separate it in half. Use a hair tie to secure the style being careful not to pull all the hair through on the last loop, to create a bun-type shape. With the remaining hair that’s left down, add some texture with your curler and a volumising spray.
The braidy bunch
Brush hair and work out the best place to focus your plait – this might be across the top, underneath or around the sides of your head. Once you have decided on the placement, get to work and start plaiting your hair. Fix in place with an elastic and use hairspray to hold and control any flyaways.
Top Tip: This style works well if your hair hasn’t been freshly washed, as the plait will look plumper and stay in place more easily.
If you’re in a rush, a bun is quick, simple and elegant. Brush your hair flat, adding a little smoothing spray onto your brush to tame flyaways as you go. Gather hair with a tie – you can leave a segment out to loosely curl with a heated tool. Use a few bobby pins to secure any hair that falls out and finish with a shine-enhancing spray. Add a glitzy hair comb for extra glamour.
The Hollywood wave
This is one of the most effortless looks to create and works best on long or mid-length hair. Once your hair is dry, either section off with some clips or put half of it up. Use a heat tool to curl each section, starting at the top. When all of your hair is curled and has cooled, run your fingers through the curls to separate and finish with a spritz of strong-hold hairspray to keep in place.
