With the theme ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’ there was bound to be some crazy looks at this year’s Met Gala, but some celebs really went above and beyond to exceed our expectations.
Following tradition, the Essentials team (and a few woman&home writers) gathered around to gawk at all the Met Gala fashion. There was a lot of shrugging, shaking of heads, and some Googling.
Here’s a list of all the stars we think took the theme a little too literally. Let us know if you agree or not?
This is not a worst dressed list but rather a ‘too much, too far’ red carpet round-up:
‘She clearly didn’t want to see people’ – Nameless woman&home writer.
Riri is usually the queen of nailing over-the-top looks but not today! We can’t quite put our finger on it but we don’t love this Maison Margiela look at all.
Lily Collins (or should we say Lil Collins)
Lil Wayne meets a grown-up Wednesday from the Addams family?
The Greatest Showman actress channelled her inner Joan of Arc in this Atelier Versace dress. We think she looks more like an archangel ready for battle, than a saint, but we love it!
We love the Mother of Dragons, but there’s just too much cherub. It’s a no from us.
Maybe it’s the Sistine Chapel-inspired designs or the big bow that we’re not fans of, but we can’t deny that Ariana has stayed true to her signature style with this Vera Wang look.
It could be Jared’s luscious locks, but we can’t help but get a saviour vibe from this Gucci outfit.
Kate is not on this list because of the veil or Oscar de la Renta dress. It’s her little sleek bangs and sombre expression that are too much for us.
You know why we’ve added in Katy, right? It’s because of those MASSIVE wings.
There’s just too much happening in this look – the slit, the extra long gloves, the choker, and to top it all off, the headpiece.
It seems like Blake is wearing curtains imported from the Vatican… That being said, it’s a really grand look and we love the headpiece – she had the best one.
Sarah Jessica Parker
The Sex and the City actress straight up wore a Renaissance litter on her head and it looks really heavy. Hopefully, she didn’t wear it all night.
This look was mainly included in our round-up because our fashion editor really dislikes bags on a red carpet.
It seems like The Mindy Project creator thought it was a fancy dress party and not the Met Gala.
