We all love the feeling of a fresh blow-dry and voluminous, look-at-me hair. We also know that for those of us who haven’t mastered the art of blow-drying hair, trips to the salon can be quite pricey, especially if you make regular appointments.
Whether you’re a natural with a blow-dryer or require the expert skill of a stylist, we’ve got the tips and tricks you need to make it last an extra day or two!
How to make your blow-dry last longer:
1. Shampoo TWICE before you blow-dry
Just like anything in life, achieving a Hollywood-worthy blowout requires a good foundation, and that means making sure your hair is super clean. When washing, really massage the scalp to remove all traces of dirt. Then, rinse and repeat.
Tip: Use conditioner BEFORE your shampoo. It’s a fairly new technique called reverse hair washing, and it helps to moisturise your hair without weighing it down.
2. Tie your hair up before bed
The best way to maintain shape and volume is to pile your hair up on top of your head in a messy-bun style, and secure the bun in place with a ribbon or Invisibobble. Avoid elastic hair ties or tying it too tight, so you don’t wake up with an indent when you let your hair down again.
3. Sleep on a silk pillowcase
Many women across the globe swear it helps. Swop out your usual linen for a silk pillowcase – this will minimise friction, frizz and breakage as you move around in your sleep. For a more budget-friendly buy, opt for a silk scarf instead.
4. Try not to wet your hair
Moisture – be it sweat, rain or humidity – is the enemy of any bouncy blow-dry. If you’re going to the gym, wear a sweatband to keep sweat away from your scalp, and try to remain cool throughout the day. You may even want to sleep in an air-conditioned room if the weather is particularly warm at night. And remember, shower caps and short showers are your friends!
5. Buy a bottle of dry shampoo and use it!
Not only will dry shampoo add texture to your mane, it will also absorb excess oil and sweat – so spray away just before heading out the door to keep your hair looking fresh, and smelling good too! Try COLAB Dry Shampoo in Tropical and thank us later…
Tip: Out of dry shampoo? Baby powder works just as well. Simply sprinkle along the hairline and parting and brush through until no white residue remains.
6. Don’t wash and blow every day
It may seem a little gross to not wash your hair after a gym session, but trust us, a little blast of hot air and some dry shampoo is all you need to limit hair washing to three times a week.
7. Stop touching your hair all the time
We know how hard it is to resist running your fingers through your hair and flipping it over your shoulder, like the cover-girl that you are, but all you’re doing is making your hair become greasy and limp.
