Cellulite: almost all women have it and almost all of us spend time wondering how to remove cellulite. Introducing body brushing — an effective way to not only reduce the appearance of cellulite, but also leave your skin feeling smoother and looking younger.
What is body brushing?
Dry body brushing, as the name suggests, is when you use circular movements on your body with a brush before showering or bathing.
What does body brushing do?
In addition to reducing cellulite, dry body brushing removes dead skin cells, boosts circulation, helps with lymphatic drainage, unclogs pours and eliminates toxins.
What do I need to start body brushing?
Any brush with natural firm bristles will work best, and a long handle will make it easier to brush your back, arms and legs. Here are some of our favourites.

2. Body Shop Cactus Brush, R190
3. Body Benefits Natural Bath Brush, R79
How do I start?
It is important to brush your body when dry, so just before a shower or bath works well. Only brush towards the heart, as this is the direction lymph flows.
- Start at your feet and then move up your legs in long strokes towards your heart.
- Brush in circles on your knees and thighs.
- Brush your hands, arms and shoulders.
- Brush your upper and lower back.
- Brush your stomach in circular strokes.
How often should I do this?
Each session should be about 5 to 15 minutes long. To gain the full benefits it is advisable to dry brush daily, but 5 days a week will also work.
Anything I should be careful of?
Never brush over cuts or varicose veins. Don’t brush your face as the stiff bristles will be too harsh and could cause irritation.
Your skin should feel much smoother and softer after only one session. The more you do it, the smoother it will become. So no more wondering how to remove cellulite, get yourself a firm-bristled brush and say goodbye to cellulite!
Now get started on your personal anti-ageing plan.
