Sunnier days and warmer weather are finally here, and we are super excited about all the fun spring/summer fashion trends that are on the way.
This season is all about OTT colours, textures and retro styling. As long as you keep it tailored and stay true to your individual style, it’s all about having fun with fashion this year. (And we’ll obviously still be wearing romantic floral dresses, floor-sweeping maxis, and cool sunnies and cozzies.)
Ok, so what are the new summer fashion trends that you should be shopping for? Well, we have the hook up. Everything from puffed sleeves to bags made of netting, here are the top 10 spring/summer fashion trends:
Nothing says ‘summertime’ more than beautiful bold colours. This season, wear one colour from head to toe for extra style points. Want a little more bang for your buck? A tailored outfit in a solid colour has the same slimming effect as wearing black – win-win!
Last season was all about flared sleeves. Now, puffed sleeves are all the rage. And if you’re finally ready to let go of off-the-shoulder tops, then a puffed sleeve is a great place to start. You’ll make a fashion statement without even trying.
This is probably the most versatile trend this season. Dress up a pastel frock for a romantic date night or toughen up the look by wearing structured blazers or pants in your favourite soft shade. Plus, pastels suit just about every skin tone and can be paired well with most colours.
Feathers may be intimidating but a little experimentation in the clothes department shouldn’t hurt. Go for accents rather than full-on feathers head to toe. For example, get yourself a pair of mules with feather detailing or a structured skirt with a feather trim, and inject a little bit of whimsy into your outfit.
Shorts have evolved from a weekend staple to a super chic choice for any day of the week. Go for a more formal style of shorts that you can wear to the office with a blazer or on a night out with the girls. Just pick a length that you’re comfortable with and strut your stuff.
Athleisure is all grown up now. Gone are the baggy silhouettes and chunky trainers. This spring/summer season, go for slimline joggers (high-waisted is best), cute crop tops, and heels. Just channel your inner Gigi Hadid and you won’t go wrong.
It used to be that beach bags could only come out for seaside trips, but this year straw bags have re-written the rules. With straw bags being such a big hit, the next logical step for fashion pacemakers was the net bag. Not the most functional choice, but they sure do make a statement. And you won’t have to spend an arm and a leg as every bargain retailer will have them in an array of fun colours to choose from.
Polka dot print is everywhere this summer. From Parisian-style small dots on feminine midi dresses to oversized, dramatic spots on quirky designs, there’s a polka dot for every taste and budget.
The fashionistas shoe of choice, the slingback heel is no longer a bad ’90s throwback. The slingback is sexier and more streamlined this time around. Try them with a block, stiletto or kitten heel and you’ll be the best dressed every time.
Matching sets are the epitome of summer days at the beach and sundowner dates. The nod to ’70s hippie lifestyle will not only give you major nostalgia but serious fashion credit too. If you’re not a fan of crop tops, go for a matching set with a longer top – you’ll look just as adorable.
