It’s called beauty sleep for a reason. Your body is actually working while you sleep to recover, rejuvenate and repair your skin without interruption. And here’s the best part: the products you use at night don’t have any interference from day-time factors like pollution, or sunscreen and UV rays. This means all those youth-boosting ingredients can penetrate deeper into the skin for a more revitalised look in the morning.
Since you spend about a third of your life sleeping, why not make the most of it by getting into an easy night-time skincare routine that will leave you radiant and ready to face the day.

Follow our 5-step easy night-time skincare routine:
1. Remove your make-up
It may seem like the most obvious step but how many of us actually do it? The best part about removing your make-up at night is that it encourages you to cleanse and tone your skin at night, too. If you wear light make-up with only a coat of mascara, make-up removal wipes should do the trick.
If you’re a fan of heavier eye make-up and waterproof mascara, it’s better to use cleansing milk or an oil-based product. Let the product sit on your eyelids and lashes to dissolve the make-up, then gently wipe away using a cotton pad. Take extra care not to tug on the delicate skin around your eye to prevent fine lines and wrinkles from setting in.
It’s not enough to just take off your make-up. Cleansing your skin at night removes all the nasties that have accumulated on your face throughout the day, the ones just waiting to clog up your pores, such as excess oil, make-up residue (sometimes a wet wipe just can’t get the job done), sweat, and dreaded pollution.
Plus, a cleansed face can absorb products better. An exfoliating face wash is a great option as you can remove dead skin cells and grime all at once, but if you have sensitive skin and don’t want to cause too much disruption, a foam cleanser will do just fine. Dry skin may even benefit from an oil-based formula.
We don’t realise just how valuable adding a toner to our skincare routine is, especially for those with oily or acne-prone skin, as it helps to control excess sebum production and irritation. If you feel your pores are a little enlarged, it can help reduce their appearance. But most importantly, toners restores your skin’s pH balance after cleansing and helps your skin hold onto precious moisture. Skip the cotton pad and simply press the liquid onto your face until it’s all absorbed.
4. Add the firmers and plumpers
This step is arguably our favourite – simply because there are loads of options to choose from when it comes to your particular skin type and you can really refine your routine to cater to your specific needs.
Whether you’re looking to brighten, reduce pigmentation or boost hydration, the right serum can solve just about any problem. This is because serums are thinner than traditional moisturisers, and contain higher concentrations of all those wonderful active ingredients your skin needs to look and feel its best.
It’s a vitamin A derivative that reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, combats uneven skin tone and can even help improve texture. There are a few drawbacks like an increase in dryness or irritation, but this may not be the case for everybody. You will also need to wear SPF during the day (as you should be!) because retinol can leave your skin more sensitive to UV rays (and certain retinol creams will require a prescription). So, your best bet is to wear it at night for safe use.
Yay, the final step! Night creams help to seal in the goodness contained in all the products you applied earlier. For those with normal and combination skin, a good night cream holds all the ingredients your skin needs to stay nourished and healthy, and of course, moisturised throughout the night. If you have very dry skin, applying an oil after your night cream can be beneficial as it helps to seal in even more moisture.
And after all that, the last thing you want to do is lay down on a pillow that will only cause more wrinkles and fine lines.
