What’s the bright idea? Choosing the right light for your home is more important than you think!
Here are some lighting tips to consider for each room in your home according to Chantal Finn, Consumer Marketing Manager for Philips Lighting South Africa.
One of the main lighting features to get right is around the mirror. Add one or two lights (installed into the ceiling) above the bath and mirror for extra light; this will really help when you want to put on your make-up or do your hair.
Whether you retire to a small cubicle or a grand master suite, you probably use your bedroom for more than just sleeping. For intimate and comfortable ambiance, use warm white LED lights and, if you like to read before bedtime, use cool LED daylight for your bedside lamp or your wall fixtures.
3. Home office and study
Whether you use this room for work or leisure, at some point you’ll be looking at paperwork, computer screens or books. Consider adding a desk lamp to this room to provide bright light and give your eyes sufficient support. Cool white light is also a great option for the study as its good for concentration and easy reading.
4. Living Room
There is more to this room than comfortable seating and the right-sized flat-screen TV, this is where your family probably spends most of their time. Proper lighting will accentuate the room’s design and create a sophisticated feel. If you have any paintings in your living room, switch to LED lights to provide a natural daylight effect while saving energy.
Every kitchen, no matter how large or small, needs efficient lighting. This is as much from a safety point of view as anything else. LED strip lighting is becoming an increasingly popular and stylish way of lighting up your indoor spaces. Add strip lights around an island unit or breakfast bar for a stylish touch.
