Learn the art of pyrography and add character to your chopping boards at home. These customised chopping boards are also a great way to personalise gifts and are relatively inexpensive to make (especially once you have the pyrography tool).
What you will need
- Chopping board
- Pyrography tool with stand (try valueforest.co.za for some splurge or budget options)
- Pencil & eraser
How to make a customised chopping board with pyrography
- Give the surface of the chopping board a rub down with a dry cloth to remove any dirt. Select your chosen nib and attach it to the end of the pyrography tool before plugging it in and leaving to heat up. Be sure not to touch it while it’s plugged in.
- Lightly mark your chosen design onto the surface of the chopping board using a pencil if needed and then use the heated tool to burn on the design. Rub out any remaining pencil marks, if visible. We found that using the tool to dent dots or make short lines was a simple technique to get you started. Later, as you build up your confidence, you may want to try out some more ambitious designs.
