Tis the season to be jolly, fallalala la la la laaaaa laaaa.. Here at Essentials, we’re full swing into the Christmas spirit, planning our festivities and thinking up fun holiday ideas. These days kids are so involved with tablets and phones and computer games that they forget to look away from the screen and smile at the actual person in the room.
Time to toss those screens and say yes to fun family activities that will bring you closer together — and remind little ones that crafty DIY projects can replace their Play Stations and Leap Pads. Ok, maybe not, but any quality time is time appreciated. That’s what the holidays are for.
Here’s how to make your own personalised Christmas stockings
You will need:
- White fabric
- Sewing machine
- Tartan fabric and ribbon
- Bostik art and craft glue
- Felt stars
Now it’s time to choose… we’ve got three different designs
- Star stocking
Cut out two stocking-shaped pieces of white fabric. Sew with the right sides together, then turn the right way round. Measure and cut a strip of tartan fabric to edge the top of the stocking. Pin it in place and sew. Cut a few stars from the tartan fabric and use some glue (which will prevent fraying) to stick them down. Add a loop of ribbon for hanging.
- Edged stocking
Cut out two stocking-shaped pieces of white fabric. Fold a thick ribbon in half lengthways and pin it in place over the edge of the pieces, tucking in any raw edges. Sew the ribbon in place. Using more ribbon, edge the top of the stocking in the same way. Glue on some felt stars, then add a loop of ribbon for hanging.
- Letter stocking
Cut out two stocking-shaped pieces of white fabric. Cut out ribbon pieces to form a letter and pin in place. Sew securely to the front stocking piece. Put the stocking pieces together and sew with raw edges on the outside. Add a loop of ribbon for hanging.
Now fill those personalised Christmas stockings with these edible gifts. Yum!
