The Pantone Color Institute has announced its choice for the Pantone Color of the Year 2016, and for the first time ever, they’ve chosen two colours… Rose Quartz and Serenity.
The pastel hues were chosen for their calming, peaceful and welcoming qualities — things that are necessary in today’s busy and stress-filled lives. The balance of the warmer rose quartz and cooler serenity is meant to have a soothing effect in the madness of modern-day life.
Why you should care about the Pantone Color of the Year 2016
Previous Pantones of the year have included the ever-popular Marsala (Pantone Color of the Year 2015), bright pinky-purple Radiant Orchid (Pantone Color of the Year 2014), jewel-toned Emerald (Pantone Color of the Year 2013) and who could forget vivid Tangerine Tango (Pantone Color of the Year 2012).
Every year, Pantone consults fashion designers, decor experts, retailers and others in the know about their trend forecasts and what colours they will be using in the new year. Based on this information, they choose a Pantone Color of the Year, and this year they’ve chosen two!
These colours will set the tone for upcoming trends for 2016, and you’re bound to see them — as well as various shades of them — all over the shops. And when we say all over, we really mean all over. Manufacturers will make appliances, fabric, clothes, mugs — anything you can think of really — in the Pantone Color of the Year 2016 shades. For those of you who want to get ahead of the pack and be super on trend, we’ve found a few buys for you in the year’s hottest colours. And for those of you who can’t stand pastel shades, maybe don’t leave the house in 2016…
