It celebrates the marrying of music and the dancing of taste buds that come with a good pizza. Every day of the week has its own special which might not always include pizza but be sure to have at least four of your senses entertained.
What we recommend: The Countess which has Camembert, caramelized onion, fig preserve
and toasted walnuts. Also try the Penelope Pineapple which has pulled pork, red onion, almonds, sour cream,
pineapple chutney and coriander. And if you have space for one more pizza on the table, order The Greek that has roast lamb, garlic, red onion, sun-dried tomato, olives, feta and tzatziki.

Indulge in authentic Italian pizza at Massimo’s in Hout Bay and enjoy the rustic, eclectic ambience of the restaurant with a good glass of wine. Massimo’s family owned a chicken farm when he was young which built the foundation for his strong attachment to chickens. This is why you won’t find chicken on any of their pizzas. They also believe in using local produce as much as possible.
Need more reasons to like this spot? Well, customers can donate a virtual slice of pizza when they settle the bill and the restaurant will ‘bank’ it for when there is someone in need. Dog’s are welcome in certain parts of the restaurant and they even have their own menu!
What we recommend: Republic of Bacon which has tomato, feta, mozzarella, smoked bacon, fresh baby spinach. The Alba has no tomato but its delicious toppings – garlic butter, brie, cooked Parma ham, mushrooms and truffle cream – more than make up for it.
The Mash Tun
This resto-bar in Woodstock is a great spot to kick back, relax and enjoy delicious pizza and other meals. They are open Monday to Saturday from 7am to midnight and are known for their variety of craft beverages and gourmet meals.
What we recommend: The White Shroom which uses a truffle oil-inspired mushroom spread on mozzarella cheese margarita with fresh thyme and dollops of Italian ricotta. Our second choice is The Pepperoni that has hand cured local salami with some spicy jalapenos.

Toscana in Claremont, formally known as Morituri, still has the same owner, and boasts the same dynamic menu and delicious pizzas. New to Toscana’s menu are their quarter pizzas and vegan options. On Sundays, create your own quarter pizza from the regular list. Plus the restaurant will soon open a takeaway spot in Seapoint.
What we recommend: Genoa has salami, red onion, jalapeno, olives, honey drizzle and the Formaggi Di Capra is simple but delicious with goats cheese, bacon, cherry tomatoes and thyme.

Family run Franco’s Pizzeria in Parkview offers a warm and inviting atmosphere and a hearty traditional menu. They offer mouth-watering dishes and their pizzas tick all the right boxes. And they have specials every day of the week – bonus!

Known as Joburg’s first authentic Neapolitan pizza experience, Coalition is popular for its flavoursome pizzas and buzzing vibe. The original restaurant is on Bolton Road and a new restaurant in Pineslopes recently opened.
What we recommend: If you can handle the heat, try the Siyani which has chorizo, chilli and cherry tomato. Or go order the Odie for a more delicate flavour – the Odie is topped with parma ham, fresh figs, mascarpone and wild rocket.

Known for its specials and venue hire, Vini’s restaurant is a combination of continental and cosmopolitan. It offers more than just a restaurant but a venue to celebrate milestones and family gatherings while tucking into some delicious pizzas.

Fairly new to its Johannesburg home, Lupa Osteria is a vibrant and inviting restaurant at the Design Quarter in Fourways where customers can gather with friends after work or enjoy a family meal together. The pizza is made using only imported Italian flour and is cooked in a wood-fired oven.
What we recommend: The No.11 is topped with coriander pesto chicken, feta, toasted almonds and rocket. Love meatballs? Then definitely try the Meatballs pizza which has pork and beef meatballs with cherry tomatoes, feta, fresh basil, red onions and chipotle sauce.

Comida in Morningside is the perfect place for an affordable and delicious pizza. This new vibey restaurant offers a menu that is inspired by both Italian and Portuguese cuisine.
What we recommend: The Vegetarian has roasted aubergine, red peppers, olives, red pesto and feta. Or try the Caprese – prawns marinated in garlic, ginger and chilli and fresh coriander topped with roasted red peppers.

The Firehouse on Florida Road has a mission to make pizza Durban’s go-to meal. Their aim is to use local produce, grow their own vegetables and herbs, and to ultimately lower their carbon footprint. They make scrumptious pizzas the responsible way.
What we recommend: Durban Fire has mozzarella, Durban beef curry, coriander and toasted coconut shavings -yum! Or Hakuna Matata (side note: we love the name) which has mozzarella, slow roasted pork belly, candied apples and ginger flakes.
