With the evolution of cooking and baking comes the exciting opportunity to use amazing kitchen gadgets that most of us didn’t have growing up. One of these gadgets is the nifty air fryer that lets you cook food with little to no added oil, resulting in healthier fried, baked, grilled and roasted meals. You can fry chips, chicken, fish, steak and ribs and even make a tasty Brazilian Cheese Bread.
How to use an air fryer – what can you make?
Although the name suggests that it can only be used for air frying food, this kitchen appliance is so much more than that. You can be creative and bake a delicious cake, roast golden potatoes or grill tasty chicken and vegetables.
Say goodbye to waiting for frozen ingredients to defrost. The air-fryer temperature knob enables you to choose the best setting for each ingredient. But frozen ingredients do a require slightly longer cooking time which won’t influence the end result.
Also, most air fryers have a divider in the basket that allows you to prepare two different types of ingredients at the same time. The only thing you have to make sure of is that the cooking temperatures for the different ingredients are similar.
Top tips for using an air fryer – what do you need to know?
An air fryer can generally cook anything that can be prepared in an oven, only in a much quicker, easier and healthier way. There are a few small ways you can make sure your meals are crispy and cooked to perfection every time – here’s how:
- Pat the food (e.g. chicken pieces, potato chips or onions) dry before marinating or spicing it and placing it in the air fryer.
- Coat the food by lightly spraying or rubbing it with some oil after it’s been dried and before it’s placed in the fryer.
- Don’t be afraid to open up the air fryer every five or so minutes to shake or rotate the food to create the best results.
- Allow for enough space between the individual pieces of food by trying not to overcrowd the tray.
