February is the month of love, and we might as well take advantage of the warmer weather – in the form of a picnic! Start planning…
There are so many options and preferences ruling what you should take on your trip to the park … Do you buy snacks at a tuck shop or do you prepare everything at home?
Whatever your preference, here are a few tips to keep in mind:
Avoid soggy food
There’s nothing worse than a disintegrated sandwich or a wilted salad. If you’ve packed green salads and sandwiches, pack additional dressings and sauces in separate containers and only add when those tummies start to growl. Otherwise, keep it chilled in your cooler box until you are ready to eat.
Don’t be quick to display
Yes, you may be excited to show off your spread – but don’t be too hasty to unpack all your goodies immediately. Food can spoil quickly when exposed to sunlight and heat. Keep food in the cooler box and only serve it when you’re about to eat.
Whether you’re picnicking with friends or family, don’t be ‘that person’ who wants to arrange everything. Let everyone contribute to the food or drinks – the more the merrier! There’s no such thing as too much food, right?
You can never have too many wet wipes. They are especially handy when you don’t have water and you want to wipe your hands and other sticky surfaces. Hand sanitiser is just as good to have as it kills off bacteria and unwanted germs.
Pack in your own bin
Remember to keep a bag on hand to use as a bin later when all the picnic festivities are over. You can place all your paper cups, plates, or any other empty packets into your bin, then you can dispose of the dirt at home or in a public bin on your way out of the picnic area. That way you’ll know you haven’t left any litter behind from your picnic.
Pack some bottles of frozen water. They’ll help to keep food and drinks chilled, and when the ice melts you’ll have heavenly cold water to drink!
Play! Choose some fun games that will be a hit with everyone! Also, don’t forget to pack a camera to capture those priceless moments.
During this month of love, spend some quality time with loved ones. If you’ll be visiting your local botanical gardens, make sure the car is ready for the drive and, more importantly, that you have car insurance to protect you in the case of any eventuality.
