Turns out Suzelle isn’t a real person, she’s a character played by actress Julia Anastasopoulos!
Julia’s next role is in Tali’s Wedding Diary, a Showmax mockumentary about a self-obsessed Sandton princess who’s moved to Cape Town and hired a documentary crew to film the build-up to her wedding. You can even follow Tali on Instagram.

Suzelle Julia let us in on 10 things most fans won’t know about her…
1. Marianne is my best friend in real life too
We were in high school together at St Mary’s in Johannesburg and then studied drama together at UCT. We have the best days when we have her on set.
2. I’m Greek
For some reason, people think I’m Portuguese. My dad is actually Greek and we often visit Greece. My Big Fat Greek Wedding — that’s really how my family is.
3. I’m allergic to garlic
My whole family isn’t big on it; we joke that we’re a family of vampires.

4. I’m married to my director
Ari [Kruger] and I got married in March. We came up with the idea for Tali’s Wedding Diary while we were engaged — there’s just so much to laugh about while planning a wedding…
5. My sister, Steph, is my stylist
She really has my back on Tali’s Wedding Diary; the crew might not tell me what I really look like, but my sister will always be honest. Too honest sometimes. She’s also playing my sister in the show, so she’s working very hard. Shame.
6. I made my own wedding dress
With some help from my sister and my mom.
7. I’m a pescetarian
I’ve never really been a big meat or chicken eater, so I made a decision about 7 years ago. I feel a bit sorry for the animals and the environmental impact, so now I don’t eat meat and I don’t miss it at all. I often struggle with a braai alternative, although veggies or fish on the braai are both delicious.
8. I’m also an illustrator
I did the big printed murals on the MyCiTi bus stops at the Civic Centre in Cape Town. I’ve also illustrated 2 children’s books and exhibited at galleries like WhatIfTheWorld. I do whimsical, detailed line drawings. It was always a toss-up for me between drama and fine art, so it’s worked out well that I’ve been able to do both.
9. I have tactile sensitivity
When I was little, I used to wear all my clothes inside out because I didn’t like the labels or seams touching my skin. My poor mom. She didn’t know what to do with me. My sister-in-law is an occupational therapist and says she deals with it all the time but I was undiagnosed. I have to ask people to pick some things up for me because I can’t bring myself to touch them.
10. When I was a child, I wanted to be a teacher
My teachers were my heroes. My mom was a teacher and I thought it was the best job in the world. I always wanted to be a music teacher, but I’m really not very musical, so that didn’t pan out, although I suppose Suzelle is a teacher in some ways.
