Your January resolutions are probably long gone by now. You’re not alone. The reason people find these intentions so hard to stick to, is because they often commit to drastic resolutions that are hard to manage in everyday life. It’s hard for even the most seasoned gym bunny to exercise six times a week. So, why would anyone think it would be easy to stick to a new routine?
We think making incremental adjustments at home to help you get into the healthy swing of things is the way to go. Remember, small changes can lead to big things.
Here are five easy ways you can get healthier at home, without much effort:
1. Go green!
As obvious as it sounds, the easiest way to stay healthy is to eat the right food. Dieticians recommend five cups of fresh fruits and vegetables a day. Most South Africans struggle to meet this daily quota. Our hack is to invest in a good “green” powder supplement, like wheat or barley grass and moringa. Eat your greens at night and consider taking a dose of green powder on those “pie and fizzy cold drink” days to avoid missing out on essential nutrients.
2. Air it out
Stuffy humid environments are ideal breeding grounds for bacteria and mould that can create breathing and other health problems. Make sure your house is aired out regularly by opening your windows and doors to create ventilation.
3. Cook it at home
Minimally processed, freshly prepared meals mean less sugar, salt, preservatives and artificial additives. Rather cook at home and pack your own lunch to avoid food that may taste good but doesn’t make you feel good.
This may be a stretch for some people. But if you can, try meditation as a form of free relaxation therapy. According to the Natural Centre for Complimentary and Integrative Health, meditation can reduce stress and fatigue as well as help you sleep. There are many free apps online that can help you get started.
5. Talk to the Hand
Last but not least, the easiest way to spread good cheer and happiness is to make sure your family is healthy. Make sure they wash their hands regularly with a germ protection handwash and that they keep fresh and clean by washing every day with a trusted brand like Lifebuoy.
When setting goals, ensure that they are achievable so that it’s easy to stick to them.
