Every little bit of kindness can make a difference in the world around us. It doesn’t need to cost a thing either. Here are 5 small acts of kindness you can easily adopt today.
1. There is strength in numbers
Get a group of your friends to come together once a month — each bringing something with them to donate to charity. You can take it in turns to host the gathering and choose a different charity each month. If you’re feeling crafty, you can also make something together to donate.
2. Clear out your clothes
Go through your cupboards and collect as many clothes as you can that are either too small, too big, out of fashion, washed-out or haven’t been worn in ages. A local children’s home or retirement village will greatly appreciate these (if they can’t use them, they can sell them at their next fundraiser).
3. Give an apple a day
When you visit your green grocer, grab an extra bag of apples and leave them in your car. They tend to last a little longer and are a healthy tummy-filler. When you next pass a person at a robot asking for food, give them one or two. If you don’t eat your packed lunch, hang onto it to hand out on your way home. Someone will be grateful for it.
4. Share a joke
We can all show someone we care by sharing a joke with them. It costs nothing but a little heart to make someone smile, and the joy is a shared one, too.
Time is a valuable commodity and there are many charities that need a helping hand. Approach the charity of your choice and offer to volunteer. You may not get a yes immediately, so persevere and ask around a bit. Once you find a place to give of your time, you’ll appreciate working with them as much as they appreciate your help.
