Every year more and more pet owners name their pets after movies, songs and celebs. Here are 8 pet names that we think will be big in the next year.
Kaa or Mowgli
With Disney’s live action release of The Jungle Book, many pets are sure to be christened with one of the character’s names. Mowgli is the boy that was raised by wolves, and Kaa is the snake that hypnotises Mowgli — both solid choices.
Other names could include Bagheera for black animals, especially cats, Baloo and King Louie. Although we’re not 100% convinced King Louie will become a thing — imagine yelling that in the park.
Daenerys or Khaleesi
While we all have to wait for the penultimate season of Game of Thrones to air next year, many female pets will be the Dragon Queen’s namesake. In fact, in the US, Khalessi was the 755th most popular name for human girls in 2015.
Tyrion and Bran could also become popular for male pets (and humans). Unsurprisingly Ramsay Bolton and Joffrey will never make the list…
Star Wars is usually popular among young and old alik,e but with last year’s release of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, even more so. And let’s not forgot the Chewbacca Mask viral video. While Chewbacca might be a mouthful, Chewie is less so.
After the release of Finding Nemo in 2003, clown fish sales went through the roof and yes each fish was probably named Nemo. With the release of Finding Dory this year, the name Dory for pet fish is likely to follow in Finding Nemo’s footsteps.
North(y) or Saint
Kim and Kanye have two children, North and Saint West. Expect every second female pet to be called Northy and male pet Saint. Because, Kardashians.
Because apparently Twilight still appears to be a thing. And this trend isn’t only for pets, in 2010, 2 years after the first movie released, Bella and Jacob topped the most popular baby names for girls and boys respectively. And last year Isabella (Bella) was at number 6 for girls and Jacob at number 10 for boys!
