This year, the Durban July invite had a rhyme scheme so we think the theme was ‘timeless fashion’ or maybe it was for guests to interpret time. Here’s an excerpt about the poem that seems to be touching on the dress code:
‘The fashion is timeless,
Explore a watch face.
Understated or classic,
Or detailed with lace.’
No matter how guests interpreted the theme, our local celebs definitely brought their fashion A-game. From the bold colours to barely-there dresses, this social event definitely did not disappoint. We take a closer look at some of the fashion moments from the Durban July that stood out for us:
Miss South Africa 2018, Tamaryn Green looked like the picture of elegance as usual. We really love the colour and that it’s making us dream of summer days!
We love the design that TV presenter and Power FM host Lihle Nkosi is rocking but think she might have gone a little too crazy with the red. What do you think?
Rapper rouge is owning this trendy look! We’re loving the African influence but wish the boy shorts were cut differently.
Fellow artist Nadia Nakai also came to slay (as the young ones say). Yes for the colour, cut, velvety material and that leg pop.
We like to think of Pearl Thusi’s look as a glammed up version of the popular granny trend (which our fashion editor approves of). Plus, her make-up looks flawless!
Okay, we think actress Thando Thabethe is fabulous but we’re not loving this look a whole lot. We might be biased because we hate fascinators #fascinatorsaretheworst
Things we love about fashion designer Thokozani Mbatha’s Durban July look – that cape and those riding boots!
Probably our favourite look we saw on Instagram. Actress Motsoaledi Setumo looks playful in this gorgeous white dress. We’re also a huge fan of her highlighter.
Can we all have a moment for Zodwa Wabantu and her incredible confidence? Wow. While we love how fearless she is, we wish there was more attention given to the design of the dress.
Here for Zulu Mkhathini’s choice of print and the way it frames his body!
