For the 90th Annual Academy Awards, celebrities got dressed up, walked the red carpet and clapped for all the deserving winners. And while the ceremony is a well-respected event in Hollywood, the best part of the night is arguably the red carpet.
So, we decided to stick with an Essentials tradition and give out some fashion awards…

Best Dressed Award – Gina Rodriguez
Probably our favourite look of the night, Jane the Virgin actress Gina Rodriguez hit all the right notes with this gown.
Worst Dressed Award – Whoopi Goldberg
This dress is doing Whoopi no favours… nor is that matching belt.
The Biggest Bow Award – Nicole Kidman
Every year, there’s someone who tries to out-bow the rest… This year, it was Nicole (Saoirse Ronan came in close second though)
Tinseltown Award – Margot Robbie
Celebration = Festiveness = Tinsel

Keeping it ’80s Award – Jennifer Lawrence
Jennifer was relatable as always in this simple metallic beauty (and when she climbed over chairs without spilling a single drop of wine).
Lady in Red Award – Meryl Streep
Can this 3-time Academy Award winner (and 21-time nominee) do any wrong? Simple. Elegant. Timeless. We love it!
Worst Wakanda Award – Tiffany Haddish
Tiffany wore this Zuria gown in honour of her late father who was from Eritrea, a northeast African country. And while we want to love the dress because of that, we still feel that this look is just not working…
(The hair, make-up, as well as the colours and fit of the dress just don’t work well together)
I’m A Barbie Girl Award – Viola Davis
We want to start off by saying that we LOVE Viola Davis, but we just can’t love this look. This sparkling Barbie pink dress is definitely a miss.
Best Curves Award – Octavia Spencer
Octavia is flaunting her curves, and doing it well!
Best Duo Award – Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira
We loved them in Black Panther, and we adored them on the red carpet together. Also, Lupita is breathtaking in gold!
What the ??? Award – Salma Hayek
We really didn’t know what to say about Salma’s dress until we saw this picture. Pretty much sums it up, doesn’t it?
Bringing BDSM to the red carpet – Adam Rippon
Honestly, how else would you describe this look?
Winter is Coming Award – Maya Rudolph
This shapeless polo neck dress matched the red carpet a little too much. Maya is just too funny for this drab design (if you can call it that).
Deepest Plunge Award – Betty Gabriel
The print is as gorgeous as the plunging neckline, and her subtle make-up lets her beautiful dress do all the talking.
Flamenco Woman Award – Sofia Carson
We’ll just leave this emoji here…
Best Throwback Dress – Rita Moreno
Peurto Rican actress, Rita Moreno, stole the show last night. This is the same dress she wore in 1962 when she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in Westside Story.
Let It Go Award – Mirai Nagasu
Ironically, we gave her this award before we found that’s she’s an Olympic figure skater, and basically channels Elsa (aka ice princess) on a daily basis…
Reversible bedspread award – Paz Vega
Don’t belive us? Exihibit A:
Skolopad Award – Andra Day
Are you getting Skolopad flashbacks? Same here.
And this is why you shouldn’t wear brown and black together, if you’re Daniel Kaluuya…
Maybe it’s the shade of brown, but we’re not feeling the jacket at all.
