There’s a new cleaning trend in town and we can’t believe we’re only hearing about it now. Here’s all you need to know about speed cleaning…
Speed cleaning is all about getting the essentials done without taking up too much of your precious time.

Cleaning tasks will be completed in no time and you’ll have more time for, well, the more important things in life – like watching Netflix or snuggling up in a good book.
Follow these rules, and hey, why not blast your favourite playlist to make it even easier?
Tip 1: Don’t backtrack
The first rule of speed cleaning is that you should move around a room only once. This means your cleaning equipment moves with you, so no backtracking. In a nutshell, you should start at one end of your house and move through it without heading back once you’ve finished cleaning one room.
This means you have to be a bit more organised when you start cleaning, but cleaning up will go faster. Even better, if you’re interrupted you haven’t half-cleaned your house, but fully cleaned a few rooms, so it’s easier to pick up where you left off.
Tip 2: Keep it tidy
The more organised you are every day, the easier cleaning will be. And yes, there’s a difference between tidying and cleaning. If your house is always tidy, you’ll be able to spend your time cleaning and not organising the mess.
Invest in storage bins, clear out clutter and get the whole family involved in keeping the house tidy to make speed cleaning possible.
Tip 3: Set a timer
It might sound silly, but when working to a timer you won’t get carried away or distracted. You’ll work to a set time frame and be aware that you need to get things done within that specific period. It’s also important to break down your time between each room. If you need more time to clean the kitchen, that’s fine but then decide which room’s cleaning time should be cut down so that you still stay within your overall time frame.
Tip 4: Invest in the proper equipment
Stop hauling loads of bottles, sprays and cloths around. Invest in a cleaning apron with many different pockets to hold everything you need. Whatever you need will be in easy reach and cleaning products scattered across surfaces will be a thing of the past, essentially allowing you being more productive.

Tip 5: Don’t waste your time
It really is as simple as not cleaning unnecessary spots. If it’s not dirty, don’t clean it. Not every single surface in your home needs to be cleaned on a regular basis, so work out a cleaning schedule and set out specific days for tasks.
Tip 6: Work smart
Cleaning from top to bottom is the way to go. Think about it… When cleaning from the top, you’ll only be cleaning each surface once, as dirt and dust from the higher surfaces won’t be landing on lower surfaces you’ve already cleaned as you dust, wipe and sweep.
Tip 7: Keep your cleaning products in good shape
Replace broken items instead of hassling to get them to work. Think about that old spray bottle you’ve had for years, it wheezes more than it sprays, doesn’t it? It’s just slowing you down and making you work harder.
