Usually, we know about birthdays and weddings way in advance, so mark them in the diary now and plan a budget for each. No surprises = less wasted cash.
Do the maths
Which would you choose: coffee every day for a month or that leather bag from Zara? Grab your calculator and work out what you can cut to get your fash fix. Have a tissue on hand to weep at how much you’ve already spent on rubbish coffee.
Review your bills
‘Never pay full price for something without checking you can get it cheaper,’ says MoneySavingExpert’s Sally Francis, who recommends shopping around to see if you could save on bills. ‘If you want to be really savvy, stash the money you’ve saved – it could really add up.’
Check it all out

Whatever you’re purchasing online, take advantage of cashback sites such as Quidco.com and TBseen.com – sign up and you’ll get a percentage of money back. Or try switching bank accounts. Sally says: ‘Some banks pay you a bonus simply for getting on board. You’ll need to satisfy their switching criteria, but it’s a fairly easy way to bag extra cash.’ Kerching!
