Here are 10 safe online shopping tips to ensure that you have the best shopping experience — shopping is supposed to be fun after all.
1. Protect yourself
Make sure the site you are visiting is a secure site. Look for the ‘https’ (avoid ‘http’) and the padlock icon to ensure a site is secure. You don’t want your personal info falling into the wrong hands.
3. Choose credit over debit
Use credit cards, rather than debit cards, for online shopping. Once in possession of your banking information, hackers can do much more damage to your finances than with your credit card number.
4. Mr Delivery
If you’re concerned you may not be home when your package arrives ask whether you can specify when the delivery time is. Better yet, it may be safer to have the package delivered to your office during working hours.
5. Make comparisons: same products, different prices
Various online stores have the same products available. Bargain hunt for the best prices. Sometimes these stores also have flash sales or 24-hour sales. Subscribing to their newsletters will give you a heads up on these.
6. The waiting game
If there’s one big drawback to online shopping, it’s the waiting for your order to be shipped. The earlier you make your purchases, the greater chance they’ll arrive on time. Many online retailers offer free shipping and delivery on purchases over a certain price.
7. Trust your instincts
If you don’t feel comfortable buying or bidding on an item online, or if you feel pressured to place your order immediately, don’t give in to pressure. If a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is.
8. If you aren’t satisfied…
Inspect your purchase. Contact the seller as soon as possible if you discover a problem with it. Usually they won’t charge you to send the item back. Tell the online store in writing about any problems you have, ask for a repair or refund. Keep a copy of your emails.

10. Use Strong Passwords
Choose passwords that have letters (upper and lower case) and numbers. Choose words or phrases that are very personal and not a nickname or a child’s name. Keep a list of your passwords in a safe place. Every couple of months, change your passwords for your most visited websites.
