First things first, what is Black Friday?
Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving celebrated in the USA (not to be confused with Canadian Thanksgiving). It’s seen as the start of the festive shopping season and retailers traditionally offer shoppers incredible sales and promotions. Although it started in the USA, Black Friday is slowly becoming a ‘thing’ in South Africa.
When is Black Friday in 2017?
It will be on 23 November 2018. Luckily, that just happens to be payday for most us too!
How to make the most of Black Friday deals in South Africa
The problem with most of these Black Friday deals is that retailers aren’t telling us exactly what savings they’re going to be offering. That means a lot of them are encouraging consumers to sign up to newsletters, RSVP to events or download apps so that they will be the first to know what the deals will be.
This makes it a bit difficult to plan your shopping, but we suggest signing up with the stores you’re most likely to buy from (you can always unsubscribe later) and then watching your inbox like a hawk. Make sure you have profiles with online stores before Friday!
If there’s a store you love or a deal you’re REALLY keen on getting, you need to make sure you’re one of the first to find out about it – because a lot of these deals sell out fast. There’ll be no judgement from us if you stay awake until 12:01 am on Friday morning to make the most of the Black Friday deals that are offered online.
And if you do venture to the malls, make sure you are prepared: get there EARLY (check mall websites for extended Black Friday shopping hours), take water and snacks along with you (no one wants to shop hangry) and stay calm.
