If you haven’t heard of Spindel yet, you’re about to have your mind blown. Spindel is a specialist laundry dryer that uses spin power instead of heat to remove up to 80% of moisture from fabrics in just 3 minutes! And because it’s so energy efficient, it uses 100 times less energy than a tumble dryer. It also extracts residual detergent and mineral deposits from fabrics, so laundry dries cleaner and feels better, too. What’s not to love?

5 ways to get through your laundry pile quicker
“The time it takes to do it all” is what bothers South African women most about doing the laundry. It’s not surprising then that Spindel’s survey shows women are squeezing in laundry before work, after work and on weekends, even if they are fortunate enough to have a full time domestic worker. This time should be spent resting, relaxing with family and reading a good book! Not sorting, folding and ironing. And when the weather is bad it creates even more frustration, as you wait for everything to dry.
When it’s colder, piles of washing tend to gather faster as the bad weather sets in, but using these easy laundry hacks should help you save time!
1. Organise and prioritise
Prioritise the laundry baskets. Have a basket for essential items like school uniforms, sports gear and work outfits. Explain to the family and domestic worker that these get washed and dried first when the weather turns. That way you won’t find yourself having to decide between sending the kids to school without their uniforms or keeping them at home to avoid embarrassment (we’ve been there, no judgement0.
2. Choose a shorter cycle
Unless clothes are visibly grubby, choose a shorter wash cycle on the washing machine to save water, electricity, time and money.
3. Make sure the machine is filled properly
Add a few socks, underwear and light-weight items to fill the machine up and save time in the long run.
4. Pull into shape and use a coat hanger
All clothing should be pulled into shape before hanging out to dry. For work items, pull into shape, place on a coat hanger and then hang this on the clothes-horse to save ironing, which is the most time-consuming and soul-destroying task of all.
5. Get a Spindel
Spindel is a fabulous time-saving solution for laundry and is a lifesaver during winter. It uses rapid spin power instead of heat to remove up to 80% of the leftover moisture from garments in just 3 minutes. So laundry dries much, much faster — even inside on a rainy day. Spindel is also safe for all fabrics, even winter woollies, and by removing excess moisture from the clothes and especially towels, laundry dries thoroughly without that awful, lingering damp smell.
Spindel can be used with machine or hand-washed laundry and is safe for all fabrics. For more information, visit spindel.co.za.
Spindel is available at home stores (Hirch’s, Tafelberg Furnishers, Wakefords) and online at takealot.com. Priced from R1999.
