We women tend to take care of everyone else’s needs while placing our own right at the bottom of our to-do list. So, who’s taking care of your needs in the bedroom? Hopefully you are.
Making time to discover what turns you on is a pretty important gift to yourself — and your man won’t be complaining either. So, if you’ve ever been curious or you’re looking to broaden your sexual horizons, now is the time to indulge. 61% of women admit that just the idea of buying and using a sex toy is a turn-on. So, why not invest in the gift that keeps on giving, and make staying in really exciting?
Basically everyone is using sex toys
The rise of the Mr Grey phenomenon has shifted our attitudes towards sex, meaning more and more women are not only buying toys, but they’re admitting to using them, too.
‘Fifty Shades has well and truly lifted the taboo on sexual exploration and, as a result, people are much more willing to try using sex toys,’ explains Sally Fish, who works for an online sex shop. ‘Something that might have once seemed unusual is now commonplace in many bedrooms and we’re much more sexually happy people because of it.’
Using sex toys can boost your relationship
Don’t assume sex toys are just for single ladies. A recent study done by an online sex shop revealed that 75% of their customers are in relationships and all of their toys can be used solo or with a man. Our partners want to please us and if we’re able to show them what turns us on, it’s a win-win situation.
‘Since embracing sex toys a few years back, I’ve found it easier to climax when I’m with my husband,’ shares reader Charlotte Hartley, 36. ‘If you’re training for a marathon, you go for a run as often as you can. Using sex toys is sort of the same thing. I’m prepping my body, making sure it’s in tip-top condition for the main event.’
The big O
Orgasms are good for us. They boost our immune systems, keep our hearts healthy, relieve pain and even help us sleep better — but we shouldn’t just rely on our other halves to give them to us. Solo sex is something that should be embraced and it’s time we took responsibility for our own pleasure.
‘Using a sex toy might open you up to new sensations and feelings you might not otherwise be able to achieve,’ explains Sally. You could have the most intense orgasm of your life. ‘And even if you try something and it’s not for you, at least you gave it a go and probably had some fun in the process.’
Something for him
It’s not just women who stand to benefit from introducing sex toys to the bedroom. Not only will your man get his kicks from seeing you get your rocks off, he could enhance his own pleasure — and performance — by trying a male sex toy, too. You might think he’d wince at the suggestion, but that’s largely down to the stigma around men using sexual aids.
Admittedly, you might not catch him laughing with his friends about his new penis pump (the way you might about your vibrator), but that’s not to say he wouldn’t be up for experimenting behind closed doors. In fact, a recent survey found that 69% of men would be happy for their partner to use a male sex toy on them.
And if he does seem reluctant, just reassure him that he’s not the only man at it — the report also suggests that the male sex toy industry is currently worth millions!
