Some people spend their whole lives looking for ‘the one’, and with dating apps like Tinder, finding your Prince Charming could be one swipe away. We have, however, heard our fair share of horror stories regarding said dating app — heck some restaurants in the USA have actual escape routes for Tinder dates gone bad.
But, there have also been many a success story, with couples around the world having found their supposed ‘soul mate’ on the red flamed app. In order to avoid any awkward situations and to assist you on the quest to find love (or whatever you’re looking for), we thought it best to provide you with a few Tinder tips. That way, you’re much less likely to end up as a story on the internet. You’re welcome!
Tinder tips: Those all important profile pictures

DO fill all six allocated blocks with pictures. This not only shows that you are who you say you are, but it also gives potentials the opportunity to view you in different settings and to get an idea of the things you enjoy doing.
DON’T use all six blocks for selfies. Yes they’ll be able to get a good look at you, but it may also suggest that you have no friends.

DO use recent images and update them every so often. These Tinder tips aren’t about tricking people into matching with you. So choose flattering, but realistic pictures. That way you know when someone matches you, they’ve done so based on how you currently look.
DON’T include pictures from a million years ago when you were 10kgs lighter and had long dark hair — it’s misleading and it also means that when he sees you in real life and barely recognises you, it’ll be awkward (to say the least).

DO include pictures that could potentially show your hobbies, interests and how you like to have fun. It’s an easy way to determine if you have anything in common with the other person.
DON’T include revealing pictures, unless you’re just looking for a hook up. No matter how tight your booty is, how amazing your cleavage is, or how well your abs are coming along, posting these kind of pictures will make people assume you’re on Tinder for one reason. Read: Netflix and chill.

Get the settings right
DO fill out a bio. It’s a great way for people to get to know you a little better, and it also avoids potential partners from matching you based solely on the way you look.
DON’T reveal too much. No one wants to know how many failed relationships you’ve been in and how you’re searching for your soul mate because you’re scared you’ll end up being eaten by your cats.

DO consider your preferred age before swiping. You don’t want to find yourself having fallen in love with an 18 year old who lives with his mom while you’re pushing 35.
DON’T set your distance farther than you’re willing to travel. Yes it opens the door to more potential matches, but is that really any good if they’re living in an entirely different city? We’ve got this one: it’s not.

Having conversations on Tinder

DO start conversations with a question — and preferably about the other person. Random statements tend to set a precedent that you’re not capable of holding a conversation.
DON’T message all of your contacts first. Choose the people you are most attracted to, or have the most in common with, and start there. Otherwise you might find yourself having to go on 20 Tinder dates in a week, which can get… complicated. It’s also sometimes up to the other person to send the first message.

DO be funny. Humour always goes a long way with these types of things. You’re both very aware of the fact that you’ve resorted to a dating app to find one another — so have a bit of fun with it.
DON’T be creepy. Asking them out after chatting for only a few minutes may suggest that you’re a little… eager. Also — avoid people who do this to you — you don’t want to wake up on morning missing a kidney. And even if you have done some level 12 stalking on Facebook, maybe don’t reveal that you looked them up on Instagram and think your moms are going to be best friends. Just saying.

DO Be yourself. It may be the most obvious of these Tinder tips, but when someone matches you — you know they like the look of you, and they’ve felt an initial connection — so if something comes from being yourself, you’ll know they like you for who you really are and not what you seem to be.
